Hydrogen sulfide is formed by bacterial conversion of sulfur-containing compounds in waste water. This highly toxic and malodorous gas escapes from the waste water especially at pumping stations and transitions of pressure lines in open channels causing bas odor or health hazards as well as so-called biogenic sulfuric acid corrosion. In the presence of atmospheric oxygen hydrogen sulfide is oxidized chemically/biologically to elemental sulfur at the sewer walls and then metabolized by microorganisms to sulfate or sulfuric acid. The sulfuric acid leads to corrosion of concrete structures and metal installations, e. g. in waste water pumping stations. High remediation costs, often after only a few years of operation, are the consequence.

By specific dosage of reactants of the GoSil®-series hydrogen sulfide contained in waste water is chemically bound. Thereby an out-gassing leading to odor and corrosion problems is reliably prevented.

The procedure

GoSil®-Products are liquid reaction agents containing iron hydroxide as active component. The iron hydroxide is able to react according to the following chemical equations with hydrogen sulfate contained in waste water to elemental sulfur and hardly soluble iron sulfide. Both reaction products are transported finely dispersed in the waste water to the waste water treatment plant.

The GoSil®-method

To ensure intensive blending of the reactants the dosage of GoSil®-Products should take place at a turbulent place, e. g. in waste water pumping stations. An intelligent microprocessor-based control unit takes various influences leading to the formation of hydrogen sulfide into account and ensures a demand-oriented and economical addition of the reagent. No special safety precautions have to be considered regarding storage and handling of these as safe and „not hazardous to water“ classified substances. Thus GoSil®-products can even be used in particularly sensitive locations, such as public traffic areas or water protection areas.

The GoSil®-Dispensing plant

The basic version of the GoSil®-Dispensing plant consists of a metal container with a product tank (1700 liter or 3800 liter working volume), a metering pump and the control unit. For homogenization of the product an agitator has been installed. The dosage of the GoSil®-Products occurs usually simultaneously with the operation oft he sewage pumps at the pumping station ensuring a flow-proportional addition of the reagent.
Different financing models for the GoSil®-Dispensing plant such as purchase, lease, rent or hire-purchase are offered.
